Taking a Full Screenshot

Go to the screen of which you want a screenshot. When utilizing Chromebook, you can take a screenshot of anything that appears on the Chromebook’s display, like a web page, paper, or film structure.


Press Ctrl and the Screen Switcher key. Doing so captures an image of everything on your Chromebook’s screen.

  • The Screen Switcher key is the one with a rectangle and two vertical lines to its right.
  • If your keyboard doesn’t have a Screen Switcher key, use F5 instead.
  • Click on Copy to clipboard if you’d like to paste the screenshot into a document.


Taking a Partial Screenshot
Most likely to the screen of which you desire a screenshot. You can take a screenshot of anything that appears on the Chromebook’s screen, like a web page, file, or flick frame.


Press Ctrl and the Screen Switcher key. Doing so captures an image of everything on your Chromebook’s screen.

Click and hold the tool. While doing so, drag it to frame the part of the display that you want to record.

  • When you release the mouse or trackpad, your screenshot will be saved.
  • Click on Copy to clipboard if you’d like to paste the screenshot into a document.


Accessing Your Chromebook Screenshots
Hold down ⇧ Shift + Alt and afterwards press the M secret. Doing so opens the “Downloads” folder where all screenshots are automatically stored.

Double-click on a screenshot. This opens up the screenshot so you can see it.
Screenshots are.png data classified with words “Screenshot,” along with the day and time they were captured.

Important: This article is only for US Chromebook users with a standard English QWERTY keyboard. If you have an international keyboard, go to Settings and then Device and then Keyboard and then View keyboard shortcuts to find keyboard shortcuts for your device.

Popular shortcuts

  • Take a screenshot: Press Ctrl + Show Windows 
  • Take a partial screenshot: Press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows , then click and drag.
  • Take a screenshot on tablets: Press Power button + Volume down button.

Shortcuts on external keyboards

If you’re using a Windows or Mac keyboard, press the Windows key or Command key instead of Search key  or Launcher key .

To change how a specific keyboard key works:

  1. At the bottom right, select the time. Or press Alt + Shift + s.
  2. Select Settings .
  3. Under “Device,” choose Keyboard.
  4. Change the function of one or more keys.

Important: Depending on your keyboard, you can press the Search key  or the Launcher key  for some shortcuts. Both keys work the same.
